Born in Muar, Johor, Tan Puay Tee is a talented self-taught artist skilled in oil painting and prints. He was invited to participate in exhibitions at the Malaysia National Art Gallery between 1962 – 1969, as well as the National Art Gallery’s Annual Art Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur during 1984 – 1985.
His works were selected for the ‘Contemporary Art in Asia’ exhibition in 1965 and the ‘Salon Malaysia’ art exhibition in 1968. In 1985, he participated in the Malaysian-Chinese Artists Art Exhibition Kuala Lumpur.
He held most of his solo exhibitions in his hometown Muar, but also organised solo exhibitions in other places such as “A Series of Stories. A Symphony of Life” in Singapore (2002) and “Life. Bitter” at Younie Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2012). His collectors include the Malaysia National Art Gallery, Malaysian and Singaporean private collectors.
