Inscriptions: With around 100 years of old age, the huge rain tree in my hometown has changed its appearance so much that people today even mistake it as a big banyan tree.

  • Born in Muar, Johor, Tan Puay Tee is a talented self-taught artist skilled in oil painting and prints. He was invited to participate in exhibitions at the Malaysia National Art Gallery between 1962 – 1969, as well as the National Art Gallery’s Annual Art Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur during 1984 – 1985.

     

    His works were selected for the ‘Contemporary Art in Asia’ exhibition in 1965 and the ‘Salon Malaysia’ art exhibition in 1968. In 1985, he participated in the Malaysian-Chinese Artists Art Exhibition Kuala Lumpur.

     

    He held most of his solo exhibitions in his hometown Muar, but also organised solo exhibitions in other places such as A Series of Stories. A Symphony of Life” in Singapore (2002) and Life. Bitter at Younie Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2012). His collectors include the Malaysia National Art Gallery, Malaysian and Singaporean private collectors.
