艺术简历

周民光，沙登人，曾为马来西亚国际现代书画联盟、书艺协会和爱石协会会员。自幼对美术，尤其是传统书法有着浓厚的兴趣。在1965年，他开始跟随启蒙老师杨邦仪学习西洋画，后来多年来一直追随著名留法画家 - 谢玉谦学习西洋油画。同时，他也向秦玉仙老师学习中国水墨画；在1975年、1985年和1997年跟随黄崇禧老师学习书法。秦玉仙与黄崇禧皆毕业自新加坡南洋美专，并于吉隆坡美术学院担任讲师。之后，周民光更是远赴台湾向高华山老师和薛平南老师拜师多年，深受二老篆法的影响和启发。他不仅热衷钻研书法，也是字画及书法书籍的资深收藏家。

他的书法作品曾参加多次全国书法比赛，如陈金火杯书法比赛，并获得奖项。此外，他多次参与全国书法大展，如 “承传” - 马来西亚书艺协会二十周年纪念暨第二届马来西亚全国大展（2005）、“墨舞春风迎新岁”，隆雪华堂（2016）等。所参与的海外展览有：“新马豫书法巡回联展“，即新加坡、马来西亚及中国国际书法巡回展（2007）；“南溟燕归-马来西亚书艺协会会员作品展”（2017及2018），展览先后在北京师范大学坚净美术馆及北京中国文艺家之家展览馆举行；以及“第十三届国际书法交流新加坡大展”，新加坡书法中心（2018）。除此，他还为华教发展做出积极贡献，主办了多次书法义展，如2006年在隆雪华堂，为董总筹募资金而举办的“义不容辞 – 周民光书法义展”，以及2017年为峇都急侨民华小举办的“民光墨香侨民梦”书法义展。2019年，为了纪念前辈艺术家，沙登美术馆及沙登书画家联谊会策办了“周民光、黄石光、叶丁喜 - 向前辈致敬纪念特展”。

The late Chow Min Kong was a member of the Malaysian Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Association, the Calligraphy Society of Malaysia and the Malaysian Stone Lover Society. Since childhood, Chow had a strong passion towards art, especially traditional calligraphy. In 1965, he began to learn Western art from Yong Pang Yee, followed by oil painting lessons taught by the French-educated pioneering artist Chia Yu Chian. At the same time, he studied Chinese ink painting under Qin Yu Xian, and practiced calligraphy under Wong Teng Hee in 1975, 1985 and 1997 – both teachers were trained at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore and taught art at the Kuala Lumpur College of Art. Later on, he travelled to Taiwan and learnt calligraphy under the renowned calligraphers - Gao Huashan and Xue Pingnan. Chow also collected calligraphy pieces and books on calligraphy avidly.

Chow participated and won numerous calligraphy competitions, including the Tan Sri Tan Kim Hor Cup Calligraphy Competition. He also actively took part in calligraphy exhibitions held both locally and internationally, including a large-scale Chinese calligraphy touring group exhibition across Singapore, Malaysia and China (opening at the Ngee Ann Cultural Centre, Singapore) in 2007; “The Calligraphy Society of Malaysia Members Exhibition” in 2017 & 2018, held at the Jianjing Art Museum, Beijing Normal University and Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circle Exhibition Hall respectively; and the “13th International Calligraphy Exchange Singapore Exhibition”, Singapore (2018). Chow also frequently conducted exhibitions and artwork donations for charitable causes. In 2019, a memorial exhibition was jointly organised by the Serdang Art Gallery and Serdang Artists Association.
