FEBRUARY: SEASON OF LOVE 二月·恋人之季 (2019) | MOR MOR
Mor Mor is a Myanmar artist whose work explores the subtle poetry of the natural world through a lens of clarity and observation. Originally trained in engineering (B.E. in IT, Yangon University), she honed her painting skills at the State School of Fine Arts in Yangon, where she developed a meticulous approach to form, texture, and light. For Mor Mor, art is a pursuit of honesty. She focuses on water—an indispensable, life-sustaining element— magnifying droplets to reveal their intrinsic value, clarity, and colourlessness. Each droplet is set against carefully considered backgrounds, where texture and hue interact to enhance the visual and conceptual depth of the work. In her paintings, colourless water transforms muted surfaces, drawing attention to the beauty inherent in nature’s simplest forms.
Mor Mor has established a strong Southeast Asian footprint, with regular invitations to major cross-cultural exhibitions across Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Her work has been featured in numerous international and regional exhibitions at global art capitals, including Art Connects Women, Dubai (2023); ArtPrize, Grand Rapids Art Museum, USA (2021); Art Revolution Taipei, Taiwan (2019 & 2017); Affordable Art Fair, Singapore (2017); LA Art Show, Los Angeles, USA (2015); Burma By Proxy, Hong Kong (2015); StART Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery, London (2014); Art Stage Singapore (2014); and so on. She was a finalist in the 2024 International Artist Grand Prize Competition (Taiwan) and has been recognised with awards such as the Schoeni Prize at the Sovereign Asian Art Prize, Hong Kong (2008). Mor Mor’s paintings reflect both a contemporary sensibility and a deep respect for the elemental, inviting viewers to see the extraordinary within the ordinary.
