Born in Yangon, Myanmar, Smith Sein Lynn was a professional artist, writer and art educator based in Thailand. Having taught under internationally renowned Myanmar artists, including U Lun Gywe and Than Hein, he was regarded as one of the prominent fifth-generation Myanmar artists. Smith Sein Lynn was the president of the Golden Myanmar Group, advisor of the Artist League of Thailand and Watercolor Society of Thailand, and a special member of the International Watercolor Society.

 

After graduating from the University of Yangon with a B.A., Smith Sein Lynn furthered his studies at the University Lectureship (Fine Arts), Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany. With around 60 years of experience in art, he participated in roughly 200 exhibitions across Southeast Asia and Europe over the past decades, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland, China and Taipei. His artist studio was based in Thailand, having showcased in over 150 art exhibitions there, where he also ran a successful art school.

 

Smith Sein Lynn’s solos include A FLASH BACK, Café Studio, Petaling Jaya & Artisan Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur (2015), ORIENTAL DREAMS, City Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2014), POETRY OF LIFE, Younie Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2013), SONGS OF THE ORIENT, Galerie Seni Mutiara, Penang (2010), THE SILKEN EAST, Kuala Lumpur (2009), HIDDEN EMOTIONS, Bangkok (2008), GRACEFUL GOLDEN MYANMAR, City Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2007), and GLIMPSES OF THAILAND, Rotunda Gallery, Bangkok (1991).

 

His artworks were featured in notable shows such as RUB ’A PAINT, National Art Gallery (2018), ART TRIO, Curate Henry Butcher, Kuala Lumpur (2014), Incheon Global Cities Arts Exchange Grand Festival, Incheon Culture and Arts Center, Korea (2013), Art Expo Malaysia (2006, 2007, 2008, 2011 & 2012), 8th Bridge-Asia Contemporary Art Exhibition, Hangzhou, China (2009), Soul of Asia Exhibition, Luzerne, Switzerland (2008) and Asia Invitation Art Exhibition, Seoul, Korea (2004).

 

His notable accolades include: the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards (2002), Best Artist of the Year Award/Artist League of Thailand (2002), the Finalist's Award, International Artist Magazine (2003), as well as a Red Cross Medal bestowed from HRH Princess Somsavali Kitiyakara, Thailand (2009).
