Artist Biography
钟正山教授于1935年出生于马来西亚马六甲,祖籍广东梅县。毕业于新加坡南洋美术专科学校艺术教育系,师承陈文希、陈宗瑞、钟泗宾。1984年考获美国三藩市大学公共行政管理系硕士学位;是一位在多元文化熔炉中提炼出来的艺术家及美术教育家。
他先后在马来西亚和中国创办了五所艺术学院,包括1967年创办马来西亚艺术学院;1994年与云南大学、内蒙古师范大学合作创办「中国云南大学国际现代设计艺术学院」、「内蒙古师范大学国际现代设计艺术学院」,并开创中外合作办学「一校两制」的全新模式;
2000年,创办了「马来西亚国际资讯艺术设计学院」以「艺术与科技的交汇与融合」为艺术教育理念,及与湖南株洲炎帝大学合办「正山国际现代设计艺术学院」。其现代艺术教育理念对两地的现代艺术教育作出一定的影响及贡献。他是一位具有使命感和理想的艺术教育家,故被学术界誉为“马来西亚现代艺术教育之父”。
钟正山也积极地参与国际艺术教育之交流工作,80年代中期曾担任过亚太区艺术教育会议(ASPACAE)轮值主席;1982年,与台湾管执中共同发起成立「国际现代水墨画联盟」,并担任主席10年,致力于推动中国水墨画的现代化运动。中国著名美术评论家邵大箴教授评曰:“钟正山的艺术创作和所得的成就具有前瞻性,对包括中国在内的东方艺术家具有借鉴和启发的意义。”因此,钟正山亦有 “马来西亚现代水墨画之父” 的美誉。
他的作品先后在国内外二十余个国家地区的国际大展中展出;同时也在国内外举行过三十次个人画展。作品被博物馆、美术馆、政府机构,企业,及私人收藏家收藏。
Born in Malacca, Malaysia in 1935, Chung Chen Sun graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore under the tutelage of prominent Singaporean Nanyang art pioneers, including Chen Wen Hsi, Chen Chong Swee, Cheong Soo Pieng and Georgette Chen. In 1984, he obtained a Master's degree in public administration from the University of San Francisco in the United States. The artist cum art educator is essentially honed from a melting pot of diverse cultures.
Chung successively founded five art colleges in Malaysia and China, including the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) in 1967, while in 1994, he collaborated with the Yunnan University and Inner Mongolia Normal University to establish two international modern design art colleges in China. In 2000, he founded the Malaysia MSC International College (Media, Art & Design), with the integration of art and technology as its core education model. He also cooperated with the Hunan Zhuzhou Yandi University to co-found the Chen Sun International Modern Art & Design College in Zhuzhou, China. Chung has contributed tremendously to the development of modern art education at both the national and international levels, with a set of ideals and ambitious goals which earned him the title as the "Father of Malaysian Modern Art Education".
Chung also actively facilitates in the continuous dialogue regarding art education in the global arena. In the mid-1980s, he served as the rotating President of the Asia Pacific Art Education Association (ASPACAE). In 1982, he took the role of President at the International Contemporary Ink Painting Association (ICIPA) for 10 years, in which he was committed to promoting the modernization of Chinese ink painting. Chung is also known as "the Father of Modern Chinese Ink Painting in Malaysia" through his remarkably fresh and innovative artistic creation and achievements, which have greatly inspired various artists throughout the region.
Chung's works have been exhibited in over 20 countries/regions, while he has held 30 solo exhibitions both locally and internationally. Furthermore, his artworks are highly sought-after and collected by museums, art galleries, government agencies, enterprises, and private collectors.
