Artist Biography
Based in Ipoh, Perak, Wong Kean Choon is a Malaysian veteran watercolour artist who graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore in 1965, where he was taught under pioneers of the Nanyang art style, such as Chen Chong Swee and Cheong Soo Pieng. Wong is not only an artist but also a lecturer at the Perak Institute of Art and serves as the president and a life member of the Perak Art Society. His solo shows were held at Ngan Seng Art Gallery, Ipoh (1995); City Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2003, 2005 & 2008); and NPH Inetrior Art & Décor, Ipoh (2004). Since 1991, he regularly exhibited at various Asian watercolour shows held across South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, such as at the National Art Gallery of Malaysia (2006); Younie Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2012); Insa Art Plaza Gallery, Seoul (2017); Balai Seni Menara Maybank, Kuala Lumpur (2019); and Maru Art Gallery, Seoul (2022).
