CURATOR'S WORDS

Happy 2019! In conjunction with the upcoming Lunar New Year, we are delighted to bring you our first exhibition of the year -- Lingnan Master Puah Kim Hai's Chinese Ink Solo Exhibition + Chinese Old Porcelains & Ceramics Exhibition. This is also our first series of Younie Gallery's 10th Anniversary Project: The Encounter of the Old & Contemporary in Arts, where we combine exhibitions of contemporary artist and old porcelains & ceramics into one.

Puah Kim Hai was born in Kuala Lumpur in the year 1950. After graduating from Malaysia Institute of Art (MIA) in 1972, he pursued professional Chinese Ink Painting under the famous Lingnan Art master Yang Shanshen. He combines techniques of Batik and Chinese brush together to create Malay figurative paintings. Puah has been known as the Malaysian Lingnan Art Master, and he is currently the President of Malaysian Lingnan Art Society. He held many solo and group exhibitions both locally and internationally.
