A.S. Kang (Kang Ah Sim) was born in Kedah in 1951. Despite the absence of any formal art education, Kang managed to establish himself as a prominent artist in the competitive art world through his relentless hard works and fiery passion towards art. In particular, Kang is widely celebrated in the art world as "The King of Koi," renowned for his extraordinary ability to capture the vibrant energy of koi fish and the dynamic flow of water.

As a jack in all pots, Kang is skilled in a wide range of media including acrylic, Chinese ink painting & calligraphy and even sculpturing. This is especially surprising given that all of these are learnt from the artist’s self-taught processes. As the Vice President of the North Kedah Art Society (2001 - 2018), Kang’s collectors include the National Art Gallery, Bank Negara Malaysia, the New Straits Times Press and other private sectors.

Kang has showcased his work in numerous group exhibitions at Younie Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, including 'Golden Brush III' (2018), a tribute to veteran local artists over 60. He has also participated in international art expos, such as the Artists Art Fair Malaysia (2014) held at Stadium Chinwoo, Kuala Lumpur.
