About the Artist 艺术家简介
Samsudin Mohamad, a veteran member of Angkatan Pelukis SeMalaysia (APS), formerly operated Galeri Melati at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex and was an active member of the Conlay Artist Colony, where he forged close bonds with artists like Yusof Gajah and Maamor Jantan. Now based in Kampung Sayong Tengah, Kuala Kangsar, Perak, he continues to create from his Sam Art Studio.
Having studied at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang in the early 1990s, he began his career as an illustrator (1980–1983) and graphic artist (1984–1986) before fully dedicating himself to fine art. His works have been featured in numerous group exhibitions both locally and internationally, including “Sentuhan APS”, Galeri Petronas, Kuala Lumpur (1997); “Quest into Malaysia’s Fine Art”, Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur (2000); “Dual Portraiture”, Gajah Gajah Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2006); “Merdeka 50: A Celebration of Malaysian Art”, Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (2007); “Susurmasa (Timelines)”, National Art Gallery Malaysia (2008); “Batik Is My Soul”, Starhill Gallery (2011); and so on. He also represented the National Art Gallery of Malaysia at the JakArt@2001 Festival in Jakarta and participated in shows in Singapore, Thailand, and Bulgaria. He has organised several solo shows since 1997, including “Melukis Citra Manusia” held at R A Fine Arts Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2010).
